Thank you SE.

The title of this post is intended to be sarcastic. Recently, SE made a new update that has since really turned things around for your typical "merit party". What they've done is they've made it so that 2 handed weapons, now deal more damage. This means that DRG, DRK, SAM and WAR have now just received a huge boost in their damage output.

Now i'm actually not upset that the jobs have been a boost in their dmg potential, because beforehand jobs like DRG, SAM and DRK weren't typically invited to cannon merits which I believe is due to their total dmg output. The top ranking melee DDs were always MNK, WAR and NIN. So its actually nice to see that these other jobs - DRG, SAM, DRK - can be invited more often to cannon merits.

My peeve, is that with this update, the WAR with axe & axe combo is now crap in comparison to a WAR with a Great Axe. I'm peeved, because back when I had first started up WAR, I took Great Axe as suggested by my bf. It was a lot better dealing dmg than two puny axes. However, when I reached lvl 50 and was given the trait of Duel Wielding II (I think thats what its called) things changed. I never actually tested it, but had heard from others that by subbing ninja and duel wielding axes I would deal more dmg than I would with my great axe. So, for a while I lvled both axe and great axe. That is, until my great axe started falling behind, and eventually I just decided to leave it and eventually I would just skill it up in my free time.

Well that never happened, and now because of this update everyone is expecting all WARs to have GA lvled. This of course means, I now have to pull out the weapon I had always wanted to use in the first place, and get it capped again. I think i've lvled around 10 levels without touching it, so that'll be a bit of work. But luckily after mentioning it in LS, I had a few people offer to give me a hand. So now its just a matter of setting some time aside and actually doing this.

Moving on, i've been really working on my SAM lately. In the past two days i've managed to take it from lvl 12-24. I was hoping to get it to 25 before tonight, but so far the one party i've managed to get invited ended up disbanding because our healer "dc'ed". You know, I never quite know if people actually have legit disconnections anymore. I'm so use to seeing the type of players that just don't have the guts to say they've decided not to lvl, for whatever their reasons may be, and leave the party.

Meh. With the new update I shouldn't be too concerned, seems that SAM has become a popular DD to invite now. I think i'm going to set my goal to get SAM to 75 before the end of the month. It would be nice to have a melee job to merit on, instead of my WHM and RDM. I'm really sick of healing now, and want in the actual "killing".

Oh, and in addition to that, I was able to get these!

After helping out Timwakefield get his pair, I spent the next 2 days camping Mee Deggi. The morning I actually got these, I had lost the first 2 claims which made me really frustrated but then on the third spawn, he popped right in front for me and as I was killing him I made a little "Please PLEASE DROP" prayer to myself.... and yeah, they dropped! That made me about 2/7 in total, including Tim's drop.

Then the next item I went to camp, was the Katayama (GK) dropped by Carnero. This low lvl sheep NM supposedly has a lottery spawn of 5 minutes - 4hrs. And lucky me, he took just over 3hrs to spawn -_-.

So having two items I wanted for my SAM, I muled over my gear and set myself up to start lvling the next day which I did, and flew through my lvls in the dunes.

But like all Valkurm Dunes experiences, I had an interesting one. In my party, we had SAM, WAR, MNK, RDM, BLU and COR. The party was pretty good, and we were kept healed thanks to a PL. (I don't agree with having a PL for new players or for mage types that need their healing magic to be leveled, but none of these things applied to ours) The problem however, was with our COR.

The biggest issue with our COR, was that he was just lazy. He had been meleeing at first, but after a time he stopped and would only buff the party. Eventually we started getting annoyed with this, because if anything it felt like he was being a leech. When we questioned him on why he wasn't meleeing, he simply said that his dmg with his sword was only doing "2 pts" and so it wasn't worth it to him, and it meant less work if he wasn't meleeing.

We didn't quite appreciate that response, seeing as his spot could have been replaced with a better DD or a BRD and so the pt leader ended up removing him. Honestly, if you don't plan to contribute as much as you can to your party then don't waste their time and remove yourself so that they can have a better party member in your place. The fact that this guy didn't care that he was gimping our xp, was what bothered me. I know when I get invited to a party, I try to do the best which means I come with food, I come with decent gear (and often will try to gear myself as best as I can considering I have access to farming gil in various ways) and I make sure to do everything that my job is expected to do in a party.

I guess in a way it kind of sounds like by doing this, you become a slave to the "other players" expectations (well most) because you're playing to do your best for the party... but I wouldn't be able to find it fun doing a half assed job and spending even MORE time lvling up than needed. I love lvling, but I do like to progress and get the best xp/hr possible. FFXI is an MMO, which means that you kind of have to play according to what other people want, and for the most part it isn't that bad if that means doing the best that you can in the game. There are people that go to the extreme of course, and their expectations and standards are ridiculous but in general asking your fellow party members to be decently geared, and to do all that they can with their job is fine.

Our COR though, didn't quite see it this way. Him, like others who play FFXI seem to want to do things "their way". Unfortunately they don't seem to realize that FFXI is an MMO, and if they want to do things "their way" they should go play a non-mmo where their performance isn't going to affect other people's time put into the game.

Ok rant over. <_<

Last thing worth mentioning was that I managed to get Xean a Kirin's pole for his MNK. Unfortunately he hasn't been able to participate in Sky events recently because he always gets home late, often when we're just finishing up and so he hasn't been able to accumulate many points nor be present when we actually fight gods. Knowing that he comes to events as his MNK and that he uses a MND setup for gods, I figured he could use the Kirin's pole so when we went to fight Kirin this last Saturday I went ahead and bid on the item, and won. Now we just have to have him get home early enough so he can use it in our next god run, lol.

Well thats it for now. Back to seeking on my SAM... though doesn't look like i'm going to get an invite anytime soon. I hate being on PST, there's barely any NA players in this time zone. >_<
